The Challenge
Create a fantasy sports platform that rivals, and surpasses, the big guys like ESPN, Yahoo, DraftKings and FanDuel. Ideate and develop a suite of unique and engaging games that allow for live scoring, custom rulesets, live drafts, chats, and achievements. Allow users to play either for free or in cash contests via user authentication, KYC, geo-location, all while sporting lightning fast load times.
The Users
While fantasy sports remains one of the most popular forms of consumer entertainment in the US, the main game still remains an annual one. Ahead of each year's NFL season in early September, a group of friends get together and draft a fantasy team composing of actual NFL players, and score points based on their on-field actions. What if you want to play at any other point of the year? Prior to Champions Round, there simply were no options. Champions Round targeted groups of friends who wanted to play together all throughout the year, and gamified their experience so they can compete during regular seasons, postseasons, and even offseason, across each and every sport there is under the sun!
The Design System
Fantasy sports often feels like a game of spreadsheets, best enjoyed on a desktop computer. We set out to shrink the fantasy sports experience to be mobile first, and mobile optimized. Next, we aimed to create a brand that promotes inclusivity, camaraderie, and gender neutrality in a space often too focused on men.
The Tech Stack
Champions Round features a Native app - iOS/Xcode with Swift and Android/Android Studio with Kotlin. Following the most modern designs and architectural principles.<br/><br/>The Backend written in Go, is highly scalable with micro services to separate the responsibilities layers, performed to the highest of standards, being able to serve millions of users concurrently while also keeping the costs down.
The Deployment
Champions Round rose to #6 on the App Store for sports apps, maintained a 4.7 star rating across both Android and iOS, and was highly praised for its usability, reliability, uniqueness, and fun!
Boost Ball
It's a Snake Draft! Draft teams for 2 weeks, 1 month, for a quarter of the season, for the full season, or for the postseason! Each week, select 1 player to boost their score 2x. Play with friends for free, or play for cash!
Sunday's Best
Draft NFL players for Sunday only. Each week, redraft players to score points all football Sunday. Play for free, play for cash. Repeat! This pairs with our beautifully designed draft board and social chat.
Spicy Slips
Make predictions in sync with live sporting events to win cash. Streak together a series of correct picks, and multiply through your risk score to cash out big. It's the ONLY live-action fantasy sports game on the market.
Daily Dozen
12 Props - 24 Hours. Which side are you on? It's a daily pick'em, $12 a day to enter, win cash for getting 7/12 or more predictions right.
Seven Stakes
Group Pick'em! Select your stake of 7 questions pertaining to the sporting world. Earn greater points for less likely correct predictions.
Big Board Showdown
It's the draft, for the draft! Each sport has its rookie draft. Snake draft your selection of upcoming NCAA collegiate graduates and earn points as they're selected to the professional ranks on draft night.
Profile
Earn achievements, streaks, and special prizes. Adorn your profile with your accomplishments, and show off to your friends!
Chat
Chat with your friends, brag about your draft picks, or your big cash wins. Games are social by design, all operating out of a shared chat interface.
